Queen & Slim has a lot going in its favor. The movie was written by Master of None's Lena Waithe and stars the Oscar-nominated Daniel Kaluuya alongside newcomer Jodie Turner-Smith, Chloë Sevigny, and Pose breakout Indya Moore. Most intriguingly, perhaps, the director is Melina Matsoukas, best known for making Beyoncé’s “Formation" video and multiple episodes of HBO's Insecure.
Star-power alone is not enough though, and Queen & Slim has a powerful plot to boot. It's the story of a couple who, after a first date, are forced to go on the run when the man (Kaluuya) shoots and kills a police officer in self-defense. While evading police capture the couple's story goes viral and they become a symbol for something much bigger. Due in theaters on November 27, the movie has been compared to Bonnie & Clyde and Thelma & Louise. Check out the trailer above.
