It feels like a decade has passed since getting a friend to dress up as the Rick to your Morty for Halloween seemed like a cool idea. What began as a clever, oftentimes dark show by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland in late 2013 morphed into something that is viewed at least in part through a legendarily bad fanbase. Six years and a shift in public opinion later the creators are in a position where offering Kanye West an opportunity to do his own episode is not completley out of the realm of possibility given West's enthusiasm for the show.
Today, Adult Swim has announced season 4 will release this November. As if that's not enough, Harmon and Roiland said at the Warner Media Upfronts that Kanye could be what no one is asking for: "If that guy had the support to do all the ideas he has in his head, it would be Elon Musk 2.0"
It will have been a little over two years and about a hundred pickle rick tattoos since fans were able to enjoy new episodes, with the Season 3 finale airing on October 1, 2017. As noted by Variety, this is the longest gap between seasons of the program, something that Mr. Poopybutthole hinted at during a post-credits scene following the end of last season.
The animated comedy follows the shenanigans of Rick, the emotionally non-existent, 700 IQ-having mad scientist and his anxious, shuffling grandson Morty. Will the most egregious members of the fanbase continue to be the loudest? Or will everyone take a step back and evaluate what it means to say "I completley identify with Rick"? Only time will tell.
