Do you remember that deeply, deeply cursed trailer for the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie? Who am I kidding!? Of course you do! It’s probably burned into your brain! It probably provided that final push you needed to start therapy! Well, despite the many negative repercussions of that supremely chaotic video (and its freaky, hairy hedgehog legs) it seems that there’s been at least one positive come out of it.
Billboard reports that following the inclusion of Coolio’s 1995 classic “Gangsta’s Paradise” in the trailer, the song’s streams have spiked, with 11 million on-demand streams since the trailer’s release. That’s a not-insignificant bump of 237% from the week before. The newfound interest in “Gangsta’s Paradise” has also caused a spike in streams of Weird Al Yankovic’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” parody “Amish Paradise.” At least someone’s benefitting from Sonic’s muscular blue ass!
