On Sunday, Young M.A addressed the controversy over the lyrics to Kodak Black's song "Pimping Ain't Eazy." The song, released in February 2019, contains homophobic lyrics referencing her such as: "I go Young M.A on these dumb bitches/Like a dyke, man, you niggas can’t fuck with me” and “I’m fuckin’ Young M.A, long as she got a coochie.”
In her first Instagram Live session, Young M.A suggested that the "situation" was overblown and expressed her frustration with internet gossip. She also called Kodak Black "weird," but clarified in a subsequent Instagram Live video that she did not use "weird" as an insult. "I'm weird. I know I'm weird, I'm good with that. And that nigga [Kodak] weird too. And he know he weird... Y'all stay trying to blow shit out of proportion"
Even though M.A's comments were targeting internet commenters, Black was happy to blow them out of proportion. In his own Instagram Live session, he doubled down on the language that he had previously been criticized for, saying “I’m talkin’ ’bout, how are you a girl but don’t want your pussy penetrated?” and "Don't be mad at me 'cause I want you."
The FADER has reached out to representatives for Young M.A and Kodak Black for comment.
