Vince Staples says he’s off probation, thanks Meek Mill
“I’m finna be jetsetting R.I.P. Anthony Courdain !”
During an appearance at Coachella 2018, Vince Staples mentioned that he was on "one more year of probation," then launched into a scathing takedown of R. Kelly. Just under a year later, Kelly is in custody, and Staples says his probation has ended.
The rapper tweeted about his newfound freedom. "I’m finna be jetsetting R.I.P. Anthony Courdain," he wrote. "Stay out the system Black people! Thank you’s to Meek Mill my Mama and the Crips for the motivation to escape."
While it's unlikely that Meek Mill had anything to do directly with Vince Staples's probation, Meek has been a vocal proponent of probation reform since his release from prison. In January Mill announced the Reform Alliance, a multimillion-dollar advocacy group targeting prison and probation reform co-founded with JAY-Z, New England Patriots co-owner Robert Kraft, and Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin.
Staples is currently on tour with JPEGMAFIA and Buddy in support of his his new album FM!. Read The FADER's review here.
