After much speculation, Chicago Police Department Chief Communications Officer Anthony Guglielmi announced earlier today that Jussie Smollett was under criminal investigation for filing a false police report. Now, Guglielmi confirms that Smollett has been charged with the felony. "Detectives will make contact with his legal team to negotiate a reasonable surrender for his arrest," he wrote in a Twitter statement issued Wednesday afternoon.
Variety reports that producers on Empire are considering suspending the actor from the show, though no official decision has been issued yet. Fox had previously released two statements in support of Smollett amid the fluctuating case. He is due to appear in court tomorrow for a bond hearing.
