Kossisko has a hedonistic fever dream in his “Superficial” video
The Berkeley artist shares a new video from last year’s LOW project.
In 2012, Kossisko emerged onto the scene as 100s, a perm-wearing, slick-talking rapper telling stories of pimp exploits and debauchery. Over the course of the last seven years, he's shed his rap moniker, shifting into more avant-garde territory under his real name with projects like Red White N Cruel.
At times, these recent releases alienated fans of his former pimp-rap persona, skewing somewhere in between glam rock and electronic music, but his latest project, last November's LOW, feels like a happy medium. One of the standout tracks from that project, "Superficial," found the 26-year-old maintaining the same indulgent charisma as his earlier work over glossy production that allows plenty of space for his vocals.
In the video, which premieres on The FADER today, he performs the song in a variety of vividly colored settings. He describes the video as “that feeling you get when you're just being flagrant as fuck with the check.”
