Mitski’s “A Pearl” video is a sublime painted dreamscape

The race for best music video of 2019 begins in earnest today with the visuals for Mitski's "A Pearl." Art Camp's animated instant classic uses 1,480 individually drawn and painted frames. The fluid movements suggest an at least partially rotoscoped production, but the dreamlike twist to the woman's frantic marathon keeps grasping the wonderful technique out of reach.
