Apple disables Group FaceTime after bug allows users to listen in on contacts
A fix is reportedly coming later this week.
Apple has temporarily disabled the Group FaceTime function off its app after a glitch allowing users to listen in on other people they are calling was discovered. Under some circumstances the glitch allowed callers to see video if the person they were contacting before they accepted the call.
The glitch was first reported by 9to5Mac. They noted that it turned the phone of the person being called into a microphone while the phone was ringing. Pressing the power button on the side of the iPhone, an action often used to ignore a call, caused the device to start broadcasting video to the caller.
Apple has not publicly commented on the glitch, though a spokesperson told Reuters that a software update would be available “later this week”.
