Watch A$AP Rocky discuss his sobriety with Angie Martinez
The rapper talked about planning Yams Day and how staying sober has helped.
A$AP Rocky revealed he's been sober since the beginning of 2019 during an interview on Wednesday with Angie Martinez. The rapper made the comments at 5:50 in the video above, following a discussion of the drug awareness nonprofit Always Strive and Prosper, a drug awareness nonprofit – the organization was founded by Tatianna Paulino, the mother of A$AP Mob founder A$AP Yams, who died in 2015 of an overdose.
"That was my New Year's Resolution," Rocky said. "Like I said in [the TESTING song] 'Praise The Lord,' 'Sometimes I even stop the smoking when it's time to focus. I just gotta get my mind right, get it healthy." The 30-year-old said his age contributed to the decision, but left the door open to returning to his previous lifestyle. "That's just for now, not forever, I'm just getting my s-h-i-t together."
Rocky went on to promote Yams Day, his annual music concert celebrating the life of A$AP Yams. It takes place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on January 17, and will feature performances from the A$AP Mob, Playboi Carti, Young M.A, and surprise guests.
