The first part of the double album will arrive on March 8. Posts on both Instagram and Twitter state "Autumn 2019" for the second part. Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost will be Foals's first album since 2015's What Went Down, and its first since the departure of bassist Walter Gervers last year.

Speaking to NME in 2017 frontman Yannis Philippakis said the state of the world was making its way into his new material: “I think the world is obviously affecting the way we feel as individuals," he said prior to entering the studio. “I definitely feel that when I’m writing lyrics or music, that it’s in dialogue with what’s going on around me in isolation – so I’m sure there will be things in the lyrics to do with, not just the political climate but also the environmental situation that’s happening now."
