Vine co-founder Colin Kroll found dead in New York

Colin Kroll, a technology executive who co-founded both Vine and the HQ Trivia app, has been found dead in New York at the age of 34. The New York Times reports Kroll was discovered by police in his Manhattan apartment after they received a call regarding his wellbeing.

Kroll was pronounced dead at the scene after being found unconscious and unresponsive on his bed. A cause of death remains unconfirmed at the time of writing. The Times reports a drug overdose is suspected. Police said they found what appeared to be cocaine and heroin in the apartment.

Police have informed Kroll’s family and HQ Trivia, where he was chief executive, put out a statement on Sunday. “We learned today of the passing of our friend and founder, Colin Kroll, and it’s with deep sadness that we say goodbye," the statement reads. "Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Rus Yusupov, with whom Kroll co-founded both apps, also posted condolences on Twitter.

“So sad to hear about the passing of my friend and co-founder Colin Kroll. My thoughts & prayers go out to his loved ones. I will forever remember him for his kind soul and big heart. He made the world and internet a better place. Rest in peace, brother,” he tweeted.

Kroll briefly worked for Twitter after the company bought Vine in 2012. He later admitted he was fired for “poor management” following allegations of inappropriate workplace behavior toward women.
