Miley Cyrus is working with Mike WiLL Made-It on her new album
Cyrus previously worked with the producer on 2013’s Bangerz.
Miley Cyrus has confirmed that she has recorded music for her next album with Mike WiLL Made-It. The pair worked together on Cyrus's 2013 album Bangerz but the hip-hop producer did not contribute to Cyrus's subsequent albums, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz in 2015 and 2017's Younger Now.
Cyrus is currently promoting "Nothing Breaks Like A Heart," a collaboration with Mark Ronson set to appear on his upcoming solo album. Speaking to 95.5 PLJ in New York, Cyrus confirmed her next record will be produced Ronson, Mike WiLL, and Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow.
"I think this ["Nothing Breaks Like A Heart"] is a nice introduction to the sound that we've got going on with the next record," Cyrus said in the interview. "Mine is a little heavier than ["Nothing Breaks Like A Heart"]. A song that he and I have done together is more rock driven, modern Debbie Harry or Joan Jett. Then we've got songs with Mike WiLL that lean more hip-hop and songs with Andrew Wyatt that lean more pop/alternative. I just have kind of everything."
Cyrus and Ronson also appeared on Beats 1 on Tuesday with Cyrus telling host Matt Wilkinson she thinks her album might be out in June of 2019.
Cyrus's return to the studio with Bangerz-era producer Mike WiLL comes more than a year after she appeared to distance herself from rap music in general. Speaking in a 2017 interview with Billboard, Cyrus said she felt alienated by hip-hop's materialism and graphic sexual descriptions. "It was too much 'Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my cock' — I am so not that," she said at the time.
She subsequently walked back the comments after receiving criticism online from fans who felt she was guilty of appropriation and had merely used the genre for commercial success.
