Fantasy Black Channel was first released in July 2008, capturing the spirit of both the U.K. indie rock scene at the time and the burgeoning nu rave scene. Mixing electronic influences and psych sounds into their traditional band set-up, Late Of The Pier broke through with singles such as "Space and The Woods" and "Bathroom Gurgle."

The album would be the only record Late Of The Pier released. Since splitting in 2010, frontman Sam Eastgate has made music as La Priest and collaborated with Connan Mockasin as Soft Hair. Keyboardist Sam Potter featured on Franz Ferdinand’s latest album while bassist Andrew Faley works in education. Drummer Ross Dawson died in 2015 following a tragic accident.

The record follows the band’s recent book release Ecstatic Data Sets: The Chorismos Apeiron Scanner (2028 Edition), described as a manual for a music-making machine of the near future.
