"Christmas," the intro from Lil Gotit's recent Hood Baby project, is only vaguely about the holiday that celebrates Jesus' birth. For the Atlanta rapper, it's more of an aesthetic reference point: "Comin' through with green and red beams like it's Christmas," he raps in a stuttered warble on the songs opening bar.
Over the past year, Gotit has established himself as one of the heirs to Young Thug's crown in the city's crowded rap scene and, like his mentor, he delivers head-turning lines regularly. "This slime gon' goose like R.L. Stine," he sings midway through the hook. The song is more about Gotit celebrating himself and the people around him — and maybe that's the true meaning of Christmas, anyway.
"'Christmas" is a bar. It’s one of my favorite songs, and that’s why I made it the intro," Gotit told The FADER. "It’s hard. I wanted to show the world the Hood Baby’s version of Christmas in the A."
