Monáe’s production deal will link her Wondaland Pictures with the studio.

Janelle Monáe has secured a first-look deal with Universal Pictures, Deadline reports. Monáe's Wondaland Pictures company will develop movies that focus on “underrepresented voices and groundbreaking perspectives” according to the industry report.

Monáe has starred in a number of movies in recent years, including Moonlight and Hidden Figures. She will soon be seen alongside Steve Carrell in Universal's Welcome to Marwen and 2019 Harriet Tubman biopic, Harriet. She will also provide voice roles in upcoming animated movie UglyDolls and Disney's Lady and the Tramp remake.
