Stan Lee, co-founder of Marvel Comics, passed away on Monday at the age of 95. He is chiefly known as one of the architects of the mainstream American comic book industry, and the creator of a slew of superheroes like Spider Man, Black Panther, and the Incredible Hulk.

As with any titan of a creative industry, Lee's work transcended his chosen medium and went on to influence other fields. The most obvious being movies, where films starring Lee's creations dominate the box office, but another, equally important area was hip-hop: the aesthetic pioneered by Lee has been lovingly tapped by rappers, their designers, and the industry at large for decades. So when news of Lee's passing broke, rappers shared their condolences on Twitter, along with musicians who were also touched by Lee's legacy. Read some below.
