The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Brooklyn Nets have both unveiled new custom jerseys honoring hometown legends Prince and The Notorious B.I.G.
Both NBA teams took to social media to unveil jerseys for both artists, sharing a purple-colored, Purple Rain-inspired jersey for Prince in honor of his affinity for the color and his iconic album, as well as a Coogi sweater-inspired jersey for Biggie in honor of the fact that he frequently rocked the knitwear.
In a statement about the new jerseys, Prince's estate said that he loved to both play and watch basketball. "From his days playing at Bryant Junior High and Central High in South Minneapolis, through countless pick-up games while on the road with bandmates around the world, he enjoyed the camaraderie and competition of the game," the statement read. "This partnership brings together the city of Minneapolis, and more broadly the state of Minnesota, in an exciting effort to uniquely honor Prince."
