Taylor Swift broke her notorious silence surrounding political matters on Sunday to endorse two Democrats, Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives in the upcoming midterm elections. In her Instagram post explaining her decision, Swift wrote that the voting record of Bredesen's opponent, Republican Marsha Blackburn, "appalls and terrifies me," citing Blackburn's votes against equal pay for women and against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, and her stance against gay rights.
Since Swift's endorsement of Bredesen, the more dedicated portions of Swift's fanbase have been posting up a storm on Blackburn's Instagram page. One of the most frequent comments is the snake emoji, repeated numerous times – the emoji is a reference to Kim Kardashian West insinuating Swift was a snake and accusing her of lying about giving Kim's husband Kanye West permission to use crude references to her on his song "Famous." The snake became an integral part of the motif around Swift's 2017 album Reputation. Naturally, the deluge of comments is triggering a lot of Blackburn supporters.
Speaking of Swift's endorsements, President Donald Trump said the artist "doesn’t know anything about her. Let’s say that I like Taylor’s music about 25 percent less now, okay?”
