Near the beginning of her lecture at this year's Red Bull Music Academy in Berlin, Jlin explains to moderator Chal Ravens why "naked" is a term she frequently uses to describe her music. "When I create, that's the space that I'm creating from... I'm creating from a very vulnerable state, from the core of my being." The ensuing hour-long talk is an illuminating portrait of what it's like to create from that space, works like Jlin's recent project Autobiography, a soundtrack for a dance performance by British choreographer Wayne McGregor. Jlin's insights run the gamut from surprising – like why Sade is one of her favorite artists – to the cosmic, when she exalts the borderless possibilities of creation.
