East L.A. meets India in NorBlack NorWhite’s latest lookbook

Earlier this year, Indian-Canadian clothing brand NorBlack NorWhite shared their Velvet Vixen capsule, which found its inspiration from the spice markets of old Delhi. With their newest collection and lookbook, premiering today on The FADER, NBNW is looking beyond India — this time, finding a connection with East L.A. The brand’s cultural connection to the area and its Chicano movements come through its relationship with Los Angeles artist and activist LadySoulFly, who directed and executed the lookbook’s stunning hair and makeup which capture, in NBNW's words, a “mashup of Indian & Chicano aesthetic.”

“There is an air of strength and style that still exist in East L.A. today,” NorBlack NorWhite shared. “When choosing our models we consciously chose those whom personally embody that spirit and who are active brown & black activists & artists in the community.” Shot by photographer Fabian Guerrero, the lookbook found setting in local arts spaces and landmarks while sharing a “visual style story of migration, movements, and the collaborative power of brown.”

See shots from the collection’s lookbook below, and this weekend, check it out in-person at NorBlack NorWhite’s first pop-up shop, AREA CODES, taking place from September 14th to 16th at Brooklyn’s A/D/O. The pop-up will also feature art by a badass lineup of POC artists like Jasjyot, No Borders Shop, Rajni Perera, and more, as well as DJ sets from artists like Kindness and DJ Ushka.
