The subject of Dev Hynes's latest Blood Orange project Negro Swan's artwork is 19-year-old model Kai The Black Angel, Highsnobiety points out. The art features a calming photo (taken by Hynes's girlfriend Ana Kraš) of Kai, as he rests dreamily atop the window of a cream-white car, dressed in white angel wings, olive green cargo pants, and a white du-rag.
Speaking with the publication about his involvement in the cover art, Kai revealed the story behind his 'Black Angel' moniker, and how he linked up with Hynes for the project. The Philadelphia native shared that Hynes initially reached out via Instagram — after Kai had shared a message with him via Instagram Live.
"When I first found out about Dev, it was from a GAP commercial," Kai said. "He was basically dancing through these different scenes and I was obsessed from that moment. I literally was like, “I don’t know who this man is, but I love him." Kai also explained that he did not know his black angel style photo would be the album's artwork, sharing that it still doesn't seem real to him.
The young model also detailed his other endeavors apart from modeling, which include everything from DJ'ing to working at Starbucks. Read the full profile here.
