Vince Ash's Do or Die is one of the year's most underrated rap projects. On his debut, the Hammond, Indiana native establishes a deeply sinister and haunting sound, underscored by the 21-year-old's gruff baritone, to tell stories about growing up in the Rust Belt.
"Text Free," named after the calling and SMS app, is a grim-sounding standout from the project. The video, which premieres on The FADER today, is a set up as an infomercial for Ash's day-to-day activities. "The song basically details a couple of the extra curricular activities I was involved in while in high school and prior," Vince Ash told The FADER. "The concept behind the video was to almost make an infomercial, letting you know the services we have available. And the song is called “Text Free” because that app was the instrument used to make all of these things possible."
