Over the last few years, Chicago's Jean Deaux has lent her talents to many artists in the Midwest's tight-knit hip-hop scene, appearing on standout tracks from Saba and Smino. This summer, she's releasing her debut EP, Crash Course, and, today, she's premiering the first single from the upcoming project. Over an elastic production from ROMderful, Jean Deaux finds her pocket, floating over the driving bass line.
"'Energy" is me setting the energy around myself, my career, my life," Jean Deaux told The FADER over email. "If I don't like your energy you can move around. Being able to read others is a blessing. And usually people's energy is more blatant than the mask they put on. So this is my anthem for setting the tone to demanding what I deserve. Bring joy, life, respect through the door and leave all that petty shit at home.”
