NYC-based brand Chromat has made inclusivity its top priority since its 2016 NYFW debut, and the line's dedication to the cause is paying off. The architectural clothing line's swimwear is officially available for purchase at Nordstrom, which is major in more ways than a wider accessibility to the swimsuits themselves.
The space-age swimwear — historically modeled by people of all sizes and races — has always been available for purchase through Chromat's own webstore, as well as with luxury retailer Barneys for the past few years. What's new about the Nordstorm deal is that the store purchased swimsuits that cater to all sizes, including the first order for Chromat swimsuits in sizes up to 3X.
"We’ve been in Barneys for a long time, and they’ve really supported us over the years, but their size ends at large," said designer Becca McCharen-Tran to Glamour. "Nordstrom is for sure at the forefront of size inclusivity in retail, so I do see that, finally, that consumer is getting more options in the high-fashion space."
Wholesale accounts determine what sizes and styles go into production, meaning that a major order from a massive stockist like Nordstrom is monumental in making the larger sizes available permanently, and not just as part of the spectacle of a runway show. True inclusivity takes time and resources, and Chromat is doing the damn thing. Shop Nordstrom's Chromat selection here.
