JAY-Z is a featured artist on DJ Khaled's "Top Off" with Future and Beyoncé. His verse responds to threats made by George Zimmerman, the man who shot Trayvon Martin, as pointed out by The Blast. Listen to the mention above at 1:05.
In December, Zimmerman told The Blast that his family had been harassed by a crew working on Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, a documentary series JAY-Z is executive producing. The program will tell the story of Martin, the unarmed black Florida teenager Zimmerman killed in 2012 (Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges in 2013, catalyzing the Black Lives Matter movement).
After Zimmerman said he wanted to “beat JAY-Z” and “feed him to an alligator," JAY-Z appears to have responded through his lyrics on "Top Off." They read: "Meanwhile Georgie Porgie sinnin’ and sendin’ me threats / Save your breath, you couldn’t beat a flight of steps / Try that shit with a grown man / I’ll kill that fuckboy with my own hand.”
Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story premieres in July on The Paramount Network. A press release says that the show "delves deep into the heart of the story which is more than a tragic narrative about a young man’s life cut short - it’s a story about race, politics, power, money, and the criminal justice system."
