Colin Kaepernick will announce the final donation of his $1 million dollar pledge tomorrow
He’s given to 31 organizations so far.
In 2016, Colin Kaepernick pledged to donate $1 million towards organizations fighting racial injustice. Tomorrow he'll announce the organization receiving his final donation of $100,000, completing the promise.
Over the last 15 months, he's given to 31 groups across the country, including Assata's Daughters, Meals on Wheels, the Center for Reproductive Rights, the Black Youth Project, and J. Cole's Dreamville Foundation. A website tracking the donations has also broken down exactly how each of the donations, usually around $25,000, will be allocated.
The announcement came with a video featuring footage from Know Your Rights Camp, a campaign funded by Kaepernick to "raise awareness on higher education, self empowerment, and instruction to properly interact with law enforcement in various scenarios."
Kaepernick's civil rights work has been honored several times over the last year, including the ACLU's Courageous Advocate award, and Sports Illustrated's Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, which was presented to him by Beyoncé.
