Last summer Michaela Coel broke our hearts when she revealed that she wasn't planning to write a third season of her hilarious show Chewing Gum. She blamed a hectic work schedule while Channel 4, which broadcasts the show in the U.K., confirmed they had "no plans" for more episodes.
However, this appears to have changed with Coel telling the London Times in a new interview that she will begin work on a new season later this year.
There will be one change going forward, with Coel planning to work with co-writers for the first time. “Because I don’t want to die," she said of that decision. "My sets are not peaceful. It’s a beautiful catastrophe. I am running around like a headless chicken. I don’t sleep because I am writing. It’s manic. I love it, I don’t know if I would want it any other way, but I’ve learnt from working with proper people like Charlie [Brooker, Black Mirror]; they really prepare in advance.”
There is currently no broadcast date for S3 of Chewing Gum. Coel's next major project will be London-based musical Been So Long for Netflix.
