10 songs you need in your life this week
Tracks we love right now. In no particular order.
CupcakKe: selfie; Sidney Gish: selfie; Soccer Mommy: Shervin Lainez; SahBabii: Sam Balaban
Each week The FADER staff rounds up the songs we can't stop playing. Here they are, in no particular order.
1. Superorganism, “Everybody Wants To Be Famous"
Superorganism's Orono stars in the neon meme-filled video for the group's infectious “Everybody Wants To Be Famous," which tingles and bubbles like seltzer.
2. SahBabii, "Watery"
SahBabii's piano-led new one, "Watery," references pretty much every form of H2O. It's not quite clear what "got water like bathrooms" means, but this song is so strange and silky it has us drooling.
3. Soccer Mommy, "Your Dog"
The first single from Soccer Mommy's upcoming album, Clean, is so flippin' good. On "Your Dog," a foot-tapper about feeling neglected in love, Sophie Allison sounds feistier, and better, than ever before.
4. CupcakKe, "Crayons"
"Crayons" is an ode to queer sex that truly slaps, and the clear standout from CupcakKe's new album of bangers. "Ain't no confusion, everybody human."
5. Superchunk f. Katie Crutchfield & Stephin Merritt, “Erasure”
Superchunk's first album in five years will arrive this year, and it's sounding pretty darn good already. "Erasure" is packed with characteristic power hooks and features vocals from Waxahatchee's Katie Crutchfield and Magnetic Fields's Stephin Merritt,
6. Sidney Gish, “Mouth Log”
We're new to the world of Sidney Gish, but we're already psyched on her winsome lo-fi sound. If you ever wanted to sing along with lines like "make straight white boys cry," this Boston college student's song "Mouth Log" is for you.
7. Kendrick Lamar f. SZA, "All The Stars"
This Black Panther soundtrack cut from Kendrick and SZA is soaring and moody; strings and Auto-Tune help create a larger-than-life, cineplex-ready sound.
8. M.E.S.H., “Inspired By True Story”
Berlin-based producer M.E.S.H.'s “Inspired By True Story” is comprised of heavy techno beats and repeated phrases like "For more information for all mankind." For speech that's ominously devoid of emotion, it sure makes you feel something.
9. Bedbug, “Lillies”
Another beauty from Boston: On "Lillies," Bedbug layers windy sounds and Spanish dialogue with singer Dylan Citron's own flickering vocals. In our dreams him and Sidney Gish are playing a show in an Allston basement together right at this exact second.
10. TM88, Southside, and Lil Uzi Vert, "Mood"
"Mood" is all wiggly beats and existential thoughts. "XO Tour Llif3" producer TM88 just shared the new collab with Lil Uzi Vert, Southside, and Supah Mario. "Whoa, look up at the stars, just like, whoa."
