On Sunday night, while the rest of the internet was talking about the Golden Globes, SahBabii quietly dropped his first new material of 2018: "Watery," a gospel-tinged anthem about diamonds, sex, and Texas Pete hot sauce. Over piano chords that linger just behind the bouncy drum pattern, the Atlanta rapper free associates as he harmonizes in the background. "Bitch, I got water/ You never can boil it / Hoe, I got water / But don't compare me to toilets," he raps.

The song's melodic ad-libs are reminiscent of Young Thug's "No Way," a comparison that has followed the 21-year-old since his breakout hit "Pull Up Wit Ah Stick." But over the past year, SahBabii has been steadily establishing his own voice, supported more by his own faith in himself and his creative abilities than anything else. On Monday, after dropping the new song, he tweeted, "I’m a fan of SahBabii and I’m SahBabii wow how does that work?" It just does.
