This song deserves to be the first big pop hit of 2018

Allie X and VÉRITÉ’s “Casanova” is so good.

Women had it pretty rough on the charts in 2017 — Taylor Swift and Cardi B were the only two women to lead the Hot 100. But there seems to be hope in 2018. The year has started off with Beyoncé at No.1 with her duet with Ed Sheeran, and Camila Cabello's "Havana" is still making a huge dent on the radio.

Enter "Casanova" by Allie X and VÉRITÉ, a moody song about a forbidden heartbreaker that is really fun to dance to. What more could you want, really? It was first released last June on Allie X's CollXtion II and has been slowly picking up steam ever since. In November, "Casanova" got a lyric video featuring a lip sync performance from spooky Brooklyn drag queen Biblegirl, which is how I first fell in love with the song. Just before New Year's, an official video was released featuring impeccable styling from the innovative Lisa Katnic, who has helped create some of Miley Cyrus and Charli XCX's most memorable looks. Those huge shoulder pads are very iconic and make a lot of sense when paired with the song’s loopy, futuristic beat. Here's to hoping "Casanova" gets the shine it deserves.
