As reported by the New York Times, Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Emma Watson, Amy Poehler, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Williams, Emma Stone and Shailene Woodley all showed up at the Golden Globes with women activists as their dates. “We believe we are nearing a tipping point in transforming the culture of violence in the countries where we live and work,” they said in a joint statement. “It’s a moment to transform both the written and unwritten rules that devalue the lives and experiences of women.”
Tonight's escorts included #MeToo movement founder Tarana Burke, Women’s Tennis Association founder Billie Jean King, Suquamish Tribe member Calina Lawrence and Imkaan's executive director Marai Larasi. Additionally, many of the actors and actresses attending the ceremony were dressed in all-black attire in solidarity with victims of sexual assault and harassment and wore pins with the Time’s Up movement logo.
