Tiffany Haddish is enjoying the early stages of the Hollywood awards season, hitting the New York Film Critics Circle Awards on Wednesday night. She picked up the Best Supporting Actress prize for her role in Girls Trip at the January 3 ceremony and owned the stage with her hilarious acceptance speech. Clocking in at over 15 minutes long, the stand up comic and actress showed why the wider world has come to love her in the past year with a set of observations and anecdotes that left the crowd in hysterics.
Haddish started her speech by taking a sip from her cocktail (“The Tiffany special… it’s delicious. I had two, and I do feel like magic”) before talking about the making of Girls Trip and what she has learned about the movie business. She also mentioned her rise from relative obscurity to where she is today, saying she intends to pay that forward. "There are a lot of people like me that you don't know about," she said. "But they're coming, because I'm keeping the door open."
According to onlookers, other members of the Hollywood elite are as impressed with Haddish as the rest of us. Check out the full speech above.
