The woman who accused Nelly of rape in October has filed a lawsuit against the rapper for sexual assault and defamation, TMZ reports. Nelly was arrested on October 7 after Monique Greene alleged he raped her on a tour bus after a Seattle concert, but was released without charge. The criminal case against him was later dropped by prosecutors. Greene declined to testify, telling police through her attorney that "she believes the system is going to fail her." She is now suing for assault and defamation, claiming that Nelly's team began a smear campaign against her after the allegations went public.
Nelly said on Twitter in October that he is "the victim of a false allegation." Scott Rosenblum, an attorney for Nelly, told The FADER, "It comes as no surprise that Ms. Green filed a lawsuit against Nelly seeking money after we announced our intention to hold her accountable. We always believed her accusation was motivated by greed. Nelly will answer and proceed with a counter suit against her for her outrageous unfounded allegations."
