Jada Pinkett Smith had some thoughts on Girls Trip’s Golden Globes snub
The star of the movie alleged that the Hollywood Foreign Press did not even watch the film.
When the nominees for the 2018 Golden Globes were announced on Monday a lot of people were angry that Get Out didn't get more recognition. However, the horror movie's limited nods were symptomatic of a fairly conservative set of nominations, perhaps best summed up by five white men battling it out for the Best Director prize.
Another notable snub was the comedy smash of the summer, Girls Trip. The Flossy Posse didn't pick up any nominations, not even Tiffany Haddish, whose role as Dina is one of the breakout performances of 2017.
In a brief Twitter thread, Haddish's co-star Jada Pinkett Smith alleged that the Hollywood Foreign Press (who vote for the nominees and eventual winners) failed to even watch Girls Trip. She also opened up about the deep-seated issued facing creators as they attempt to overturn the old Hollywood traditions and how the system "must learn to expand its concepts of race, gender equality, and inclusion in regard to its perceptions of art across the board."

As Vulture notes, an HFPA screening of Girls Trip did take place in July, the same month the movie hit theaters and many months before the time of voting.
