Hillsong senior pastor Carl Lentz denied claims that Justin Bieber, arguably the church's most prominent member, donated $10 million to the popular evangelical congregation. The donation rumor came from Post Malone, who told Rolling Stone that the pop star had given the money, implying that it went towards a "fucking gold roof."
"Justin has not given our church $10 million, and we do not have gold ceilings," Lentz told Rolling Stone in a follow-up interview. "We do not even own a church building. So that gives you a little insight about how serious you can take his observations about anything to do with us."
Lentz is the lead pastor at Hillsong NYC, which takes over the Hammerstein Ballroom for services. He somewhat famously baptized Justin Bieber. Beyond this mishap, he identifies as a fan of Post Malone.
"He is a very gifted artist," he told Rolling Stone. "and I wish him nothing but the best."
