Björk shares further details of sexual harrassment by a Danish director
Her new statement follows director Lars Von Trier’s response to her initial Facebook post.
Björk has shared a new Facebook statement with further details on her allegation of sexual harassment by an unnamed Danish director. It follows her initial statement issued on Sunday. Read it in full below. The artist said she was inspired by "#MeToo," a hashtag started by actor Alyssa Milano for survivors of sexual abuse to share their stories.
"It feels extremely difficult to come out with something of this nature into the public, especially when immediately ridiculed by offenders," Björk wrote in her new statement's introduction. "I fully sympathise with everyone who hesitates, even for years."
Björk did not name the person she was accusing in her either of her statements. However, her slim acting filmography has led many to conclude that the director in question was Lars Von Trier, the Danish director behind 2000's Dancer In The Dark.
On Sunday, Von Trier told Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten that he had not harassed Bjork. “That is not the case — although we didn’t get along, that’s a fact," he said (translated via Google Translate). "On the other hand, she delivered one of the greatest-ever performances in my movies.”
Dancer In The Dark's producer Peter Aalbæk Jensen went further, and cast himself and Von Trier as "victims" of what he claimed was Björk's unpredictable behaviour. “As far as I remember we were the victims. That woman was stronger than both Lars von Trier and me and our company put together. She dictated everything and was about to close a movie of 100m kroner [$16m],” he said.
