DonChristian's first release in nearly two years is appropriately called "Been Sleep." The song, the first single from the rapper and producer's forthcoming debut album Play These at My Funeral, is a hazy self-affirmation. Over twinkly, skulking production from SHE Spells Doom and A. Rock, Don and East New York rapper Jay Boogie serve up effortless flows that double as positive self-talk: "Remember my name / And that we ain't the same."
"I was getting up from a of place of depression and addiction, making music the whole while," he says. "'Been Sleep' was kind of inspired by House of Ladosha's This is UR Brain, and I wanted to create a song and visuals that made me feel like I am my own drug."
Don co-directed the soft, romantic clip with filmmaker Jake Kindlon, and filled it with familiar faces like Kia Labieja and Gia Love, whom he describes as "people I love and [who] have supported me along the way." Watch the two-in-one video above.
