Chance The Rapper distances himself from fan’s Mayor of Chicago campaign

“I do not like politics.”

September 26, 2017

Earlier this year some Chance The Rapper fans, noting the good work he does for the city, decided he should run for Mayor of Chicago. The campaign has a website and Drake endorsed the idea. However, in a new interview with Stephen Colbert broadcast on Monday night, Chance made it clear that a role in politics does not interest him right now.

"I like to make the separation between the two things," Chance said on the difference between government and politics. "I do not like politics. Government, in a certain way, is necessary and is a fluid thing that is always changing. Politics is about popularity and strategy but it doesn't make the same change that legislation makes. So I try not to get caught up in politics. I keep my eyes on the things that really affect us systemically, which is where the law is. To a certain degree I have to be up to date with what is going on politically but I try not to let is faze me."

Elsewhere during his Late Show appearance Chance debuted a brand new, untitled, song he wrote with Toronto's Daniel Caesar just two days ago. Watch his interview above, now.
