Sapphire Slows’s New Song “The Edge Of My Land” Is Body Medicine

Sometimes digital music make me feel the most real. Listening to "The Edge of My Land," a euphoric new song from Japanese artist Sapphire Slows, for example, I can feel its vibrations in my core. Hovering somewhere between dance pop and shoegaze, the track's almost-acid melody moves up my body, pushing against my chest and loosening my shoulders. That release is physical, and addicting.

Sapphire Slows has been making affecting electronic compositions for many years now, but this new one feels like a breakthrough. It's the first single from her new mini-album titled Time, due out in September on London electronic duo patten's label Kaleidoscope. The video above, directed by by Luke Wyatt (a.k.a. Torn Hawk), is as sensual a watch, and includes the artist making a meal of some flowers.

"'The Edge of My Land' expresses my instinctive lust for creating pop music, that used to shut me up in a vacuum with confusion," Sapphire Slows told The FADER over email. "But at the same time it contained pleasure and pain that releases myself from all pressure at the end. I think pain/pleasure, real/surreal, beauty/dirt, and such conflicts were in my mind when I made this album."
