Since “I Want,” summer 2015’s winningest Soundcloud surprise, Madeintyo’s proven himself a bonafide turn-up igniter. The Atlanta-via-Tokyo rapper’s signature ooh-s and skr skr-s have been ever-present at young people functions around the world, his stuck-in-your-head-forever hooks and rambunctious melodies joining forces to perfectly embody the song form of the smiling purple devil emoji.
Fast forward to 2017, and things haven’t slowed down for Tokyo in the least — he dropped a bunch of new music, including another certified bling-blaow-banger in the form of “Skateboard P.” (He even tried his hand at production with two Japan-inspired beat tapes.) He also toured with Big Sean, got engaged to the love of his life, and of late, has been focused on being the best father he can be to his newborn son, True — the latter of which has inspired a more pared back Tokyo, taking form on his new True’s World EP, premiering today on The FADER.
Featuring slowed-down and piano-heavy production from the likes of FKi 1st, DWN2EARTH, and Nard & B, the 6-track EP is a concise, more contemplative look back at the rapper’s past year. He reflects on the good and bad he’s encountered along the road to success, how much he values his wife-to-be, and the need to keep haters and harmful players at bay.
"This EP is for my fans, I wouldn't be here without them,” Madeintyo shared of the project over email. “True's World is special to me because it was inspired by my son — my biggest collab this year was making him with my fiancé distortedd. And it felt great to work so closely with my brother, 24hrs — I gotta thank him for helping me put True's World together. I hope all my fans enjoy the new vibe & growth."
