Oakland rapper Keak Da Sneak, most famous for coining the term "hyphy" and contributing to the region's musical movement of the same name, is in stable condition and recovering after being shot multiple times in Richmond, California, San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Richmond police say the 39-year-old, born Charles Kente Williams, was shot multiple times at a gas station in Richmond. He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan told the Chronicle that Williams is currently in recovery after undergoing several hours of surgery.

Keak Da Sneak began his career in the early '90s as a member of seminal Oakland group 3X Krazy. As a solo artist, he pioneered the Bay Area's energetic hyphy subgenre in the mid and late-2000s. In June, he released a new track entitled "Thunderdome" and had been teasing the upcoming release of a new album.
A representative for Keak Da Sneak was not immediately available for comment.

A police spokesperson told Fox2 that the rapper is in a stable condition after undergoing surgery at a trauma hospital. Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said "this appears to be a targeted incident."
Police are surveying CCTV footage found in the area. So far, officers do not have a description of the suspect or suspects.
