According to TMZ, Dr. Luke's lawyers have issued a subpoena for Lady Gaga in his defamation case. The pop star became involved in the never-ending legal battle between the producer and Kesha when it was revealed that Kesha allegedly confided in Gaga about the history of emotional abuse and sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke in a series of text messages.
Dr. Luke claims that the conversation ignited a "smear campaign" against him which led to the viral #FreeKesha movement on social media and then the revocation of his title as CEO of Kemosabe Records, the label he founded under Sony Music. Furthermore, the producer argues that Gaga's public display of support for Kesha during her sexual assault case negatively affected his reputation.
Gaga reportedly volunteered to provide a written statement, but Dr. Luke's lawyers have requested that she sit in for a proper deposition. Dr. Luke's lawyer made the following statement to Variety:
“Dr. Luke’s counsel served a subpoena on Lady Gaga because she has relevant information regarding, among other things, false statements about Dr. Luke made to her by Kesha. This motion has become necessary because Dr. Luke’s counsel has not been able to obtain, despite repeated request, a deposition date from Lady Gaga.”
The lawyer also mentioned that "various third parties are being deposed by both sides, including celebrities." Last month, Dr. Luke decided to withdraw his defamation lawsuits against Kesha’s mother, Pebe Sebert. Kesha's amended countersuit was rejected by a judge back in March.
