During an appearance at the San Diego Comic Con, Rocko's Modern Life creator Joe Murray shared a new preview of Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling, the classic cartoon's upcoming special.
In the reboot, Rocko and his friends Heffer and Filburt return to earth in the present day after nearly ten years in space. The sneak peek shows some of the changes they must reckon with: smartphones, energy drinks, social media, and an overall sense of vast, unfettered consumption. "The 21st century is a very dangerous century," a battered and bruised Rocko says near the end of the clip.
Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling is out in 2018. Two other well-loved Nickelodeon properties are also slated to return with specials: Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie is out fall 2017, and an Invader ZIM TV movie was announced in April.
