Universal Music Group has announced that Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s "Despacito" has passed a new global streaming record. The song has been streamed 4.6bn times across all major platforms, making it the most streamed song of all time.
The song, released in January of this year, passes Justin Bieber's "Sorry," (4.38bn streams) to take the top spot. Of course "Despacito" was aided by a Justin Bieber remix, with that version of the song currently spending its 10th week at the top of the US Billboard chart
Broken down across platforms, 1.18bn of "Despacito"'s streams have come from Spotify: 563.2m from the original version and 619.2m from the remix. This accounts for around 26% of the total figure.
YouTube, meanwhile, has played a more significant role with 2.66bn streams of the official video for "Despacito" and a further 426.5m streams of Bieber remix. In total that's 3.08bn streams for the track, making up 67% of the 4.6bn total announced today.
