Chance The Rapper Claims “SoundCloud Is Here To Stay”

The Chicago rapper said he had a “very fruitful call” with the streaming platform’s creator.

SoundCloud's future has seemed uncertain in recent days, thanks to a TechCrunch article that claimed the audio streaming platform had just enough cash on hand to last another 50 days. On Friday, Chance The Rapper, one of the artists who grew his career on SoundCloud, announced that he had spoken with SoundCloud cofounder Alexander Ljung, and that the platform "is here to stay."

Chance did not reveal the content of the conversation, and it is unclear what assurances he could have given to Ljung. SoundCloud has pushed back hard against reports of the business's impending demise — in a statement issued on Thursday, the company claimed it had "long term viability" after laying off close to 40% of its staff. Ljung reassuring Chance of the company's future on the phone call seems more likely than Chance swooping in to save it.

Representatives for Chance and SoundCloud were not immediately available for comment.
