Empress Of’s New Song Will Make Your Day A Whole Lot Better
Plus, listen to an exclusive playlist of breakup anthems inspired by the song’s fuck-everyone themes.
Early this morning, Empress Of shared her first track of 2017, "Go To Hell." It's the best kind of kiss-off — one that takes heartbreak and anger and twists it into self-empowerment and pop gold. And it's so damn good.
"Life's too short to waste it on somebody else's fears," she sings over a beat made up of synthy sounds and hand-clapping. Like my therapist always says, "Don't let someone else be a barometer for your emotions." Seems like Empress has had a revelation about the way she functions in relationships, too: "This song is very much about a specific thing that happened to me that hurt me and now I laugh with joy every time I hear it," she wrote in a note to The FADER. "This is the power of music."
Listen to "Go To Hell" above, and below, spin an exclusive playlist Empress Of made, called "GTH TBH," inspired by her new song's themes.
