Listen To “SCRAAATCH No. 11,” The Philly Duo’s New Spine-Tingling Sound Poem

SCRAAATCH has a documented history of scheming up digital compositions that mess with form. Now, they've done it again: "SCRAAATCH No. 11," debuting above, is less of a "track" and more of mad-scientist experiment in sound design, featuring field recordings, performance gestures, and more. According to the Philadelphia-based duo, the 21-minute audio poem "deals with haunting," which explains why listening to it feels like exploring a creepy old house with a million different rooms. (It was performed and recorded at Locks Gallery in Philly for Nadia Hironaka and Matt Suib's exhibition, "Dark Light.")

This weekend, SCRAAATCH will be appearing at Anthesteria II, a multi-day festival organized by vintage clothing collective Cixous72. In addition to the eclectic lineup —which includes SCRAAATCH, UMFANG, Bookworms, and waaaay more — there will also be jewelry pop-ups, readings, tattoos, and even a workshop in which you can "explore energetic remedies for keeping negative forces at bay." It all goes down June 23 and 24 at Trans Pecos in Ridgewood, Queens.
