Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has said that he is ready to form a minority government after the U.K. election ended with a hung parliament. Corbyn called for PM Theresa May to resign following the surprise result, while adding that his party would do "no deals and no pacts," to gain power.
Corbyn was speaking at Labour HQ after he was re-elected MP for Islington North. Sky News quotes him as saying: "We are ready to serve this country, that is what we fought this election for, and this is the programme we put forward in our election campaign. We are offering to put forward the programme on which we have fought the election, we have done no deals and no pacts with anybody.
"We're there as the Labour Party with our points of view, everybody knows what they are and everyone can see the huge increase in our support because of the way we conducted the election and the comprehensive nature of the programme we put forward.'
Corbyn then called on May to "go and make way for a government that is truly representative of this country."
In a separate video shared on Twitter, see above, Corbyn added that the Labour party "offer real hope."
The Guardian reports, however, that May has struck a deal with the Democratic Unionists that will allow her to form a government. The PM is due to see the Queen at 12.30pm BST to confirm the deal and seek permission to form a government.
Whoever is in government will have to proceed with Brexit negotiations, which are due to begin in 11 days time.
