Everyone Is Mad About Trump’s Spin Of The London Attacks
He caught criticism for his comments.
The terrible attacks that shook London on Saturday, June 3 brought thoughtful and concerned responses from every part of the world. Leaders of the UK and the Mayor of London released statements condemning the attacks and encouraging, strength and love, and other leaders from around the world pledged their support and offered their condolences.
President Trump was one of those people, and tweeted out shortly after being briefed by the National Security Council, "Whatever the United States can do to help out in London and the U. K., we will be there - WE ARE WITH YOU. GOD BLESS!"
Trump prefaced that tweet with one reinforcing the idea that the United State needs a "travel ban" an unconstitutional measure that has been struck down by the courts multiple times already. Trump didn't leave it at that however, he followed up by decontextualizing the statement Mayor Sadiq Khan gave to London, and then made a comment about the lack of gun debate, because the attackers did not use them.
Below are former U.S. Ambassadors, the U.S. Embassy in the U.K, and many more expressing their disdain for the President's statement.
